A Message To Our Bowlers

As with the majority of the country, the 2015 TGIF Classic Committee is appalled at the discriminatory legislative action taken by the state legislature and our governor.
We have been made aware that some number of our potential participants are now reconsidering this decision in line with a general movement of “boycott Indiana” that is taking hold across the country.

While we share and understand the anger, we would ask that you reconsider such a move – not only for the 2015 TGIF Tournament, but other LGBT focused events that the city hosts throughout the course of the year.

The financial impact would not be to businesses that would seek to use this new law to discriminate. Rather, the effect would be felt by TGIF’s long-time sponsors and other LGBT-owned (or friendly) businesses that are routinely patronized by our guests. These people need our support – not our absence.

It is worth noting that the Republican Mayor of Indianapolis has broken ranks with the legislature and the governor to affirm Indianapolis’ continued stance as an open and diverse city. Our new host hotel, the Alexander, is unwavering in their commitment to servicing the LGBT community.

This committee proudly stands with all those who will be vigorously pursing the overturning of this patently stupid law. In the spirit of those who fought against oppression that we celebrate on July 4th weekend, please stand with us, and with the businesses who support us, and show the intolerant that we’re not going anywhere.
